Silicone breast implants come in 2 shapes
1. Round Implants: These silicone implants are spherical in shape and have a soft texture. The edges of the silicone are beautifully rounded, giving the breasts a natural appearance. Round implants come in various sizes.
2. Shaped Implants: These silicone implants are designed to resemble a teardrop shape, with a flat top and a fuller bottom, mimicking the natural contour of the breast. They are suitable for individuals whose breasts do not sag significantly.
The placement can be done in two ways
1. Subglandular Placement
This method is suitable for those who already have some breast tissue and experience sagging breasts. The existing breast tissue can help accommodate larger implants. However, a disadvantage of subglandular placement is that individuals with thin skin may be more likely to feel the implant, and there is a higher chance of developing capsule contracture compared to submuscular placement.
2. Submuscular Placement
This method is ideal for those with minimal breast tissue. Submuscular placement helps support the implant, making the breasts appear fuller. Additionally, this method reduces the likelihood of feeling the implant, appears more natural, and has a lower chance of capsule contracture compared to subglandular placement.
**The choice of implant placement depends on the doctor’s assessment**

Breast Augmentation Surgical Methods
1. Transaxillary Incision (Underarm Incision)
The advantage of the underarm incision is that it effectively hides the scar, which will eventually become a small, natural line in the armpit area. This method is suitable only for round implants. However, a downside is that patients may take longer to recover compared to the inframammary incision method.
2. Inframammary Incision (Under-breast Incision)
This method is very popular because the scar is hidden under the breast, typically measuring about 3-4 centimeters in length.
Steps of Breast Augmentation Surgery
1. Anesthesia will be administered to reduce pain and facilitate the surgery.
2. The surgeon will make an incision in the underarm or beneath the breast, as agreed upon with the patient, with an incision length of about 3-4 centimeters.
3. The surgeon will carefully separate the breast tissue and the pectoral muscle to create a space large enough to insert the implant.
4. The implant will be gradually inserted until it is properly shaped, and then the incision will be closed with stitches.
5. The sutures used will be dissolvable, and the entire surgery takes approximately 1-2 hours.
Post-Operative Care
1. After surgery, patients may experience soreness in the breasts and armpits for about 3-7 days, gradually improving thereafter.
2. Patients will be prescribed pain relievers, anti-inflammatories, and anti-swelling medication, which should be taken as directed by the doctor to prevent inflammation and infection.
3. A follow-up appointment will be scheduled 7 days after surgery to remove the bandage, check the incision, and evaluate the breast shape.
4. The doctor will teach patients how to perform breast massages and recommend starting these massages 2 weeks after surgery.
5. Light activities can be resumed during the first week post-surgery, while normal work and exercise can be resumed fully after 2 months.
6. The sutures used are dissolvable and do not require removal (they will dissolve within approximately 2 weeks to 1 month).
7. If the surgery was performed via the underarm, patients may use roll-on or spray deodorants after 1 month post-surgery.
8. If there is tightness or a lump-like sensation under the armpit or arm, patients can press and massage the tight area with their thumb to help relieve tension, applying pressure for a count of 1-10 before releasing. Regularly doing this will help dissolve any scar tissue and restore normal arm movement.
**After surgery, if patients experience numbness, there is no need to panic; this can occur in some individuals due to bruising of the muscles and skin from the surgery. This sensation is normal and will typically resolve within about 3-6 months. Sharp or tingling pain is also a common occurrence**
