Double Eyelid Surgery (3-Point Punch Technique)

Double eyelid surgery is becoming increasingly popular among both women and men facing issues like small eyes, lack of eyelid folds, or monolids. This procedure can enhance the appearance of your eyes, giving them beautiful and larger eyelid folds. The three-point punch technique is ideal for individuals under 40 years old with minimal excess eyelid skin. This method involves creating punctures at the inner corner, middle, and outer corner of the eyelid, securing the sutures inside the eyelid. Over time, these sutures blend with the muscle, resulting in a more natural-looking eyelid fold compared to traditional incision methods.

Steps for Double Eyelid Surgery Using the 3 Point Punch Technique

1. The surgery takes approximately 30-45 minutes.
2. The face and eye area will be cleaned, and all metal jewelry must be removed.
3. Before the surgery, the patient will be given antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medication, swelling reducers, and paracetamol, allowing them to rest immediately after the procedure.
4. An anesthesiologist will administer a sedative, and the surgeon will inject local anesthesia while the patient is asleep. The patient will not feel any pain during the injection or the surgery.
5. The surgeon will create punctures and suture along the designated lines for each surgical method. If there is excess fat or skin, it will be removed as appropriate.
6. The surgeon will then suture the inner muscles with fine sutures to create the desired eyelid fold.
7. Finally, the puncture sites will be closed with very fine sutures to minimize the visibility of the stitches. Once healed, the scars will be hidden within the newly formed eyelid fold and will not be visible when the eyes are open normally.
8. After the surgery, the patient will rest in the recovery room with cold compresses applied, allowing for observation of their condition and surgical wounds. They can return home once it is deemed safe.

Double Eyelid Surgery (Incisional Technique)

This method is suitable for individuals aged 40 and above, or those with issues such as droopy eyelids, thick eyelids, and excessive fat around the eyelids. These problems often occur with aging, leading to sagging skin that obstructs vision. The procedure involves surgically removing excess skin and fat around the eyelids to correct droopiness while employing double eyelid surgery techniques. This results in a clearer double eyelid fold that appears natural. The incision line is cleverly hidden within the natural crease of the upper eyelid, making it invisible when the eyes are open. The double eyelid will become more defined within about 1-2 months.

Advantages of Incisional Double Eyelid Surgery

– Provides precise eyelid fold lines that remain stable over time.
– Enhances the size and appearance of the eyes, boosting confidence.
– Saves time on makeup for women, eliminating the need for double eyelid stickers.

Preparation for Incisional Double Eyelid Surgery

1. Refrain from smoking for 4-6 weeks before the surgery date.
2. Avoid alcohol for 2 weeks before the surgery date.
3. Discontinue stimulants, weight loss medications, and certain supplements (e.g., vitamin E, fish oil, herbal medications, ginkgo biloba) for 2-4 weeks before the surgery.
4. Stop taking blood thinners (e.g., aspirin, Plavix) 7 days before surgery, but consult your physician before discontinuing any prescribed medications.
5. There’s no need to stop medications for chronic illnesses, such as diabetes, hypertension, or high cholesterol.
6. Those with pre-existing medical conditions should consult their doctor before the surgery.
7. If you have dentures, remove them, as they may obstruct the airway during sedation.
8. Store all valuables with a relative, as they may get lost, and do not bring them into the operating room due to potential risks from electrical devices during surgery.
9. Refrain from wearing makeup and nail polish, as monitoring changes in your condition requires visibility of your nail, lip, and eye color during anesthesia.
10. Sign a consent form allowing the doctor and nurses to perform the surgery willingly.
11. On the night before the surgery, ensure a calm mind and maintain personal hygiene.
