Q-Switch
Q-Switch is a type of laser treatment used to effectively treat melasma, freckles, and tattoos. It operates by releasing light energy to break down pigment cells, allowing white blood cells to absorb and process the disintegrated pigment, which is then eliminated as waste without side effects. Typically, 3-6 sessions are needed for visible results, depending on the depth of the pigmentation.
Q-Switch is effective for treating deep-set melasma and freckles. It reduces melanin production and stimulates collagen under the skin, making the skin appear youthful, smooth, and even.
The treatment should be done at least 3 times, with an interval of approximately 2-4 weeks between each session for optimal results
After the treatment, the area may temporarily darken due to the laser destroying abnormal pigment-producing cells. This process causes the pigment cells to break down into smaller parts, which can then be eliminated by white blood cells. As the body gradually clears these pigments, the skin in that area will slowly return to normal and become brighter. This healing process may take approximately 2-3 months, depending on the individual’s skin condition.
Steps of the Q-Switch Treatment
The laser application lasts about 10-30 minutes, depending on the area being treated. During the procedure, patients may experience mild discomfort or a burning sensation, and the skin may appear red. The emitted light energy causes the pigment in the targeted area to break down. After this, white blood cells will absorb the broken-down pigments and process the abnormal pigments, which are then eliminated as waste from the body.
Improvement is typically seen about 30 minutes after treatment. In the 4-5 days following the procedure, the treated area may develop darker spots or scabs. These spots or scabs will gradually darken and fall off within 1-2 weeks. After this, the treated skin will become brighter and clearer.
Post-Care Instructions After Q-Switch Treatment
1. Avoid Sun Exposure: After the Q-Switch treatment, the skin will be sensitive, so it’s important to avoid direct sunlight for at least 1 week.
2. Avoid Alcohol: Do not use alcohol-based products on the treated area. Instead, you can clean the area with saline and apply Vaseline until the skin heals.
3. Use Sunscreen: Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 50 or higher to protect the skin from UV rays. Use it twice a day (morning and noon).
4. Protective Clothing: Wear protective clothing, such as long sleeves, hats, or carry an umbrella, to shield the treated area from sunlight after the Q-Switch procedure.
